About NWMOAAA
The
Northwest Missouri Area Agency on Aging
has been serving the senior population
of the northwest eighteen counties of
the state since 1973. Along with more
than 600 other area agencies nationwide,
the Northwest Missouri Area Agency on
Aging was the result of a designation in
the Older American’s Act. We are a
non-profit, charitable organization with a 501(c)(3)
designation.
While
our funding comes from various federal,
state and local sources, all of our
programs and services are designed to
help older adults live as independently
as possible for as long as possible.
The longer we can help an older person
remain in their own home, the happier
they are. These home and
community-based services are also much
more cost effective than institutional
care. All services are provided on a
contribution basis; no one is denied
service because of inability to pay.
That being said, we and our contractors
rely heavily upon contributions,
donations and volunteers to serve as
many people as possible.
The
philosophy of the NWMOAAA has always
mirrored the Older Americans Act in that
we contract as many of our services as
possible with local entities. This
keeps the ownership, support and loyalty
at the local level and keeps the area
agency’s focus on assessing, planning,
development, grant writing and
monitoring the services. A few services
are provided directly, either because of
the nature or regulation of the service
or lack of sufficient funding to divide
it up between multiple contractors.
We have
ten full-time staff people and are
governed by a nine member elected board
of directors. The board and staff are
assisted by three advisory councils as
well as a nutrition council. You can
